Terms and Conditions
Timber is a natural material, which is subject to changes in temperature and humidity. We cannot accept liability for natural movement or distortion, warping, swelling or splitting which is caused by the door being exposed to extremes of temperature of humidity, or if the door is not correctly stored, treated or hung. A bow of 6mm (1/4”) along the length of the door is not unusual and is deemed to be within manufacturing tolerances. This is in line with British Standard code of conduct.
Prior to fitment the door must be stored in a cool, dry atmosphere and kept flat. Please be aware that an internal door is suitable for internal use only and must not be exposed to moisture in any way. Equally, an external door has been designed solely for use externally and must not be fitted inside. Doors must not be hung in damp or newly plastered rooms (all new plaster needs at least six weeks drying out period) or suddenly exposed to central heating or other forms of direct heat. Caution should be taken around fitting doors on freshly screeded floors and in double glazed porches and conservatories that are prone to extremes of heat or humidity. Kitchens and bathrooms should be well ventilated to prevent prolonged periods of exposure to moisture. Your door is a quality piece of furniture, please treat it with respect!
IMPORTANT!!
Most of our doors are sold unfinished, meaning that they need to be stained or painted after purchase. It is vital that the door is sealed properly before installation, failure to do so will invalidate your guarantee. You MUST use either the Sadolin or Sikkens door finishing systems. Sadolin Classic (base coat) and Sadolin Extra (top coat), alternatively you can also use Sikkens HLS Plus (base coat) and Sikkens Filter 7 Plus (top coat) to treat your door. If you use any other product your guarantee will be invalid. Some products such as Ronseal Outdoor Varnish claim they are suitable for external doors but they are not suitable for engineered doors. You must apply an equal number of coats to the top and bottom edges as well, this is very important as this is the end grain and can soak up moisture, failure to do so will invalidate your guarantee. If painting, just primer is not enough, you must apply paint coats to all 4 edges as well. Our manufacturers do not accept Waxing or Oiling as appropriate methods of sealing, so we cannot guarantee any door finished in this way.
If you wish to paint your door then you must use an Oil (solvent) based paint (AVOID water based paints, they are NOT suitable). Apply the same treatment to both sides and all four edges, DO NOT paint one side and stain the other as this will cause moisture imbalance and will invalidate the guarantee.
Please remember that, by fitting or finishing your door or making alterations in any way, you will be deemed to have accepted the goods as supplied. Unfortunately, we cannot replace a faulty or incorrectly supplied door if ANY alterations have been carried out. It is up to YOU, the customer to check the goods NOT the person fitting the product!
We shall not be held responsible for any incidental work or expenses arising out of or because of any defect in our product or failure to deliver within the specified timeframe. In the event of goods proving to be defective (manufacturer's defect only) we will repair the door/s, or our liability shall not exceed the replacement of the faulty goods.
Our engineered external doors must be protected from direct sun and rain. This is achieved by a porch, canopy or recess of ideally 1.5 metres deep x the width of the installation plus 300mm either side. If this precaution is not observed the performance of the door will not be satisfactory and any guarantee will be surrendered.
For external doors, it is important that all cut outs for letterboxes, locks, hinges are also sealed with three coats of finishing treatment. Letterboxes must only be fitted in the middle or bottom rail. Failure to comply with the above could result in your door warping, swelling or splitting.
External doors painted in very dark colours (particularly black) tend to become hot in sunlight, drying out the timber beneath and causing panels to shrink, due to moisture evaporating. For this reason our guarantee does not extend to doors which have been painted in dark colours. Softwood external doors are only suitable for painting.
Some of our doors are supplied fully finished. Remember, if you’ve bought a door sold under this heading, you must re-seal any trimmed edges, cavities or cut-outs straight away. The top and bottom of the door are often overlooked but must be done, even if it involves taking the door down for a short while. This is particularly important for sealing the end grain which acts like a sponge and soaks up any moisture, causing a door to swell and split.
Refunds where authorised, the following conditions apply:-

- Visible damage must be noted at the time of delivery on the delivery note for such a claim to be entertained. The company accepts no liability if costs are incurred by booking a carpenter before having received and checked all goods.
Any damage (as this may not be obvious until the door is unpackaged) must be reported to us within 24 hours. Edge damage should be noted at the time of delivery on the drivers paperwork.
Fitting:
An External door should be hung on three 100mm hinges.
Installation:
- Reduce doors to fit equally from both sides, but not excessively, e.g. maximum of 6mm from each edge for internal and external doors. Trimming doors more than this allowance will result in your guarantee being void.
- Fully seal glass rebates and backs of glazing beads prior to glazing on models supplied without glass.
- Never fit mortice locks/latches at rail joints as this will seriously weaken the door and void the warranty.
- External doors must have a weather bar or rain deflector fitted to ensure that water runs away from the face and bottom edge of the door.
Hardwoods (such as Oak, Meranti, Sapele etc) are natural materials which are prone to small ‘shakes’ or splits appearing. This is part of the beauty of the timber and is not considered a defect. Any flaws that appear after installation should be filled and refinished promptly to prevent moisture ingress.
Due to limited storage space, we reserve the right to return to stock and withhold all monies paid on any goods not collected within two weeks of them becoming available for delivery or collection. Wherever possible, we will notify you by phone or in writing prior to taking such action. Our guarantee is not valid for products once they are outside mainland UK.
As with all of our natural timber veneered products, variance in colour, grain and texture may be visible and this is not considered as a manufacturing defect.
